Children’s kungfu
Our children's kungfu class is based on completely different teaching principles than our adult's class. We do not teach children what we teach in the adult's class. For children the main focus is leaning the basics kicks and strikes, throws and locks. It is important that they have fun, but discipline is extremely important.
The Childrens class at the school of chinese martial arts help children gain many personal benefits:
healthy bodies
discipline,
strong minds,
confidence and self protection skills,
life enhancing personal skills.
leadership skills
Honor -Respect - Integrity
and many more
It only takes a quick look out the window to see how the youngsters of today are acting. Training must start with discipline.
They will begin to learn to address people appropriately, carry themselves with confidence not arrogance. Their school grades are important to us as well, with what they learn in the club, and of course with the parents help. Most parents find that their child's attention and productivity will increase at school.
Unfortunately today, obesity in young children is on the rise, most just sit at home and play their computer, and this is compounded by all the junk food they are feed eating.
If you want your child to truly reap the benefits from martial arts training it will take some work on your part too. Make those changes for them.
Again our emphasis is not on sport martial arts; they will do regular tests and will receive certificates for levels achieved. It is our goal to convey something more substantial to these youngsters. We have two instructors whom instruct the children's class.
Ages are from 7 years – 13 years
We do take some children from the age of 5, but this will be subject to their ability to stay disciplined and train with the group, if the child is below the age of 7 we welcome parents to let them try out a class, and afterwards you and the instructor can decide if you feel they are able for the class at the moment
We have 3 classes per week
Tuesday 6pm-7pm
Wednesday 6pm-7pm
Friday 5pm-6pm
Our new children's training program has been put together from years of teaching and we feel it is very thorough.
At the beginning of each new level students and parents will receive a term card which will show you exactly what they will be expected to learn for there next level (grade) and what they will be tested on.
What will they learn?
In the children's training program, they are taught all of the basic striking and blocking methods, they will learn joint locking and throwing. There will be self defence taught and they will learn some of the ancient formal practice exercises that have been passed down for thousands of years.
A commonly asked question is will they be punched and kicked?
It must be remembered that they are joining a martial arts class and contact is a part of the practice, however it is always controlled and in all the years I have been teaching I have never had a serious injury. I believe your child is in more danger playing hurling than martial arts!!!
It is often asked by parents, will they be able to defend themselves with what they learn?
While at first this may seem an easy question requiring an easy answer, it is not! Whom do they need to defend themselves against? If it is an adult, the answer is no, how can a child defend themselves against an adult who can easily over power them, anyone that says otherwise is a liar. Their best tool is awareness, now can they defend themselves against another youngster of the same age, well maybe! How often do they train, do they train hard or just play around. There is no easy answer to this question and I would be misleading parents if I just answered yes. However with years of study and if your child makes it into the adults classes, I feel that with the training we offer here, that yes they will be fully equipped to deal with a life threatening situation. But this kind of skill only comes to those whom practice constantly over years.
